ASIA 2018 welcomes the participation of ICSHP

The International Center on Small Hydropower (ICSHP) participated at the Seventh International Conference and Exhibition on Water Resources and Renewable Energy Development in Asia between the 13th and 15th of March 2018. Ariyana Convention Centre (ACC) and Furama Resort in Danang, Vietnam hosted the conference and exhibition.  The organizer was the International Journal on Hydropower and Dams. The main aim of the programme was to bring together representatives and water-resources experts from approximately 50 nations, at different stages of development, to exchange expertise and experiences.

Key participants at the event were government representatives, academics, contractors, suppliers, planners, consultants, researchers, owners and operators of hydropower plants and water infrastructures. Ms. Yingnan (Mily) Zhang represented ICSHP at the Seventh International Conference and Exhibition on Water Resources and Renewable Energy Development. A report on small hydropower (SHP) in Asia, providing a sub-regional analysis on SHP was submitted to the conference Project Manager, Ms. Margaret Bourke and to the Director of Aqua-Media International Ltd. Ms. Alison Bartle. ICSHP presentation encompassed data on the progress made by the centre on the publication of the World Small Hydropower Development Report 2019. It offered relevant information on the structure of the report, selection of the team and procedures and methodology followed to facilitate its publication. Asia’s challenging transition to sustainable development emphasizes the necessity of further analysis and research conducted at the sub-regional level. The ICSHP presentation also outlined the status quo on small hydropower and differentiated between SHP implementation strategies in the sub-regions of Asia.

The International Center on Small Hydropower presentation was the first in the session on International Small Hydropower Potential and Development. The session was chaired by Professor Arun Kumar from the AHEC/Roorkee Institute in India, who has considerable expertise in the field of small hydropower and an interest in enhancing SHP dissemination in the region.
